25 Bookish Facts About Me Tag

So, because I have been quite absent from blogging – which I mentioned on my update post here that would eventually happen – I have decided to do something fun and that would make my new followers/friends (I consider you all friends :D) know a little bit more about myself.

I previously – like, ages ago – did a video about random facts about myself but today I will be sharing my bookish facts, or the facts that are as closely to bookish as I can. Which means… no secrets from you guys!

I wasn’t, as always, tagged by anyone but thought it would be fun to do it nevertheless 😉

So, let’s start with 25 Bookish Facts About Me:

1) I am a slow reader. While people can read around 100 pages per hour, I have no idea how many I can read but it must be around 60;

2) But I have to admit that when I am engrossed in a book, I can indeed read around 100 pages per hour which sometimes results in having no idea how I managed to do that;

3) I only have around 100/150 books which for a bookblogger is pitiful. But I do read a lot of e-arcs so I have a lot of ebooks on my Kobo;

4) Speaking of my Kobo, I named it Bobby Socks because of reasons (and having been a fan of British boyband a1 is one of them! – long story.. it has to do with an interview I saw of them a few years back);

5) I always carry a book (or my Kobo) with me everywhere… and I mean everywhere. Even when I go out at night with my friends, I always carry a book. I might not even read it but just the idea of having it with me kind of smooths me. Is that normal or am I weird?

6) I always fan-cast the characters from the books I’m reading. Don’t ask me… I like having a face to the name I’m reading or else I won’t be able to connect with them;

7) And I always need names! I once read a book (yes, I’m talking to you A Thousand Nights) where the characters didn’t had names and it freaked me out so much it bordered on the obscene;

8) I haven’t read most of the famous series out there apart from Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Divergent and I’m currently determined in reading Cassandra Clare’s books. I also want to invest in Percy Jackson;

9) I own a total of 10 hard-covers because getting those in Portugal is freaking expensive as hell!

10) And the only ones I bought myself were These Broken Stars and The Magicians – the rest I won on giveaways or were given to me;

11) While most people don’t really like love-triangles, I’m totally cool with it. I actually enjoy it when they are well written and developed. I like the thrill of theorizing with whom she/he will end up with;

12) My grandfather wrote a book about his memoirs. I haven’t read it yet because it’s rather painful since he passed away ten years ago. But I will, one day!

13) I lost count at how many times I’ve read Harry Potter in both Portuguese and English. I pretty much read the books once every year since I was 14 so… do the maths cause I suck at it!

14) I haven’t read The Lord of the Rings though it’s my ultimate favourite movie (but I did read The Hobbit and loved it very much);

15) I normally lie to people telling them I have read Dickens when I only read A Christmas Carol. It makes me feel rather smart saying that and I want to pick up Great Expectations one day;

16) I don’t mind reading with music, Actually, it’s the only way for me to read in public. I listen to mostly soundtracks but whatever I have on my playlist works fine;

17) I sometimes judge a book by its cover! Come on, we all sometimes do it, right?

18) I collect bookmarks and whenever I go to another city or place, I normally buy one or two as souvenir to my collection;

19) I appeared in at least two books acknowledgements (even though one was a friend’s book where I helped him with the ideas) and it made me feel super important;

20) I normally read at night which results in me going to sleep around 4 in the morning (sometimes later than that… other times I don’t even sleep!). Really, if the book it’s worth it, I don’t mind it at all 😉

21) I have never read a book where the main character and I shared the same name and somehow that makes me sad!

22) I have been to Lello’s Bookstore where J.K. Rowling got inspiration to create Hogwarts staircases and I cried my eyes out (almost!) – see post about it here;

23) I don’t normally eat snacks when I read but when I do, it’s normally crisps or chocolate cookies;

24) As for drinks, hot chocolate, tea or coffee depending on my mood;

25) I have met my favourite author (Juliet Marillier) twice now and both times I felt so nervous I could barely speak properly but it was so damn GOOD!

26) And an extra fact: I still haven’t finished Inheritance by Christopher Paolini, the fourth book in the Inheritance Cycle though I really but really want to. I still have the bookmark marking where I was and that was around five years ago! In my defence: I pretty much read the whole series in one sitting so when I reached te fourth book, I was pretty tired of the whole saga! And the book is freaking ginourmous! I will finish it one day… eventually!!

There you go guys! 25 bookish facts about me that most of you probably knew already! It was fun creating this list and to see how weird I am.

If you want to do this tag you can say I tagged you because I tag EVERYONE!  And because I love you all, here’s Tom Hiddleston and his ‘snake hips’ to make you smile! You’re welcome 🙂

Updates About Being MIA!

Hello amazing people!

I haven’t been around my blog for months now. I had planned on updating the blog in January but a lot of things have been happening in my life that made it impossible.

Truth is, in December my life was turned upside-down in a way that neither me nor my mother were expecting and it has taken us all our strength to deal with this. My grandmother had a small stroke after Christmas and since then it has been pure chaos. We never dealt with this situation before so it has been a tiring few months.

I have been on a rather tiny reading slump due to that. I would go to bed exhausted and whenever I picked up a book, I couldn’t focus on it long enough to finish it. I think I tried to read a lot of books but ended up giving them up around 20 pages.

But things are slightly better now with my grandmother medicated and my old routine back. January was simply the worst month ever. But February and Mach has been slowly getting better and, I have to be honest, I miss blogging. I miss sharing book-related (or not) stuff with you.

Despite being back, however, I won’t promise I will be posting every single day or that I’m back in force. I will be slowly posting one or two posts, try to write reviews and share a few things. It’ll be a rather slow process but I will definitely try to blog more often.

I have a few posts planned already. One of them is a tag that I was supposed to have published on December but with my finals and then Christmas and stuff, I totally forgot. I’m not entirely sure if I’ll be doing a top 5 favourite books from last year but I might… Let me know if you want me to do it and I’ll do it.

As for a quick reading status updates: I am currently reading (still since a few weeks now) Pride and Prejudice and Zombies which has been a funny experience. Knowing the original source, having Lizzy and Mr. Darcy fighting zombies is weird as hell. There were a few moments in the book already that were slightly over the top but overall I have been rather enjoying it. And no, I haven’t seen the movie and I plan on watching it on DVD when it comes out. But it was the movie that made me want to read the book in the first place.

Other book that I’ve started is Cupcakes, Trinkets and other Deadly Magic by Meghan Ciana Doidge because Regan, from PeruseProject – go follow her videos if you haven’t yet… she’s super cool, mentioned it on one of her videos and since the book was free to download, I thought “why not?”. I only read a few pages and I’m hoping it’ll be a fun and quick story with magic and chocolate hehe xD

I also got an account on BooksAmino just yesterday. I’m still relatively new to that but I hope it’ll be a way for me to meet new people, books and authors. It’s just a community app that allows you to share everything bookish in your life. You can follow me there as Ner the Witch (if you can’t find me let me know!)

This as just a quick update to let you know I haven’t forgotten you. Life gets a lot in my way and it makes it complicated to dedicate time for myself. But I will always come back… always!

In the meantime, if you want to follow me on my social networks, feel free to do so. You can follow me on Twitter, Instagram and snapchat (nerthewitch). Looking forward to see you guys there 😉

Thank you all for your patience and understanding and keep an eye out tomorrow for my long lots tag 🙂

The Secret Life of a Book Blogger Tag

I wasn’t tagged (no-one ever tags me *inserts ugly crying*) but I kind of stole this from Michelle @The Writing Hufflepuff. Now, seriously, I know I’m always stealing her tags but she always posts the most interesting ones so… sorry 🙂

Now, let’s just jump straight into the questions/answers, shall we?

1. How long have you been a blogger?

Before having this baby, I had a personal blog that I started way back in the day (around 2008, me thinks! Sorry, can’t remember and I’m too lazy to go check it). I mainly posted random stuff I enjoyed: from books to music to movies to cinema crushes! Yap, random stuff! One day, on a whim, I decided to create a book blog because I was posting a lot of things concerning books on that blog and most of my followers were (and this is real) getting tired of it. So, I decided to create a blog solemnly dedicated to books and those who wished to follow me on that blog, were welcome to do it 🙂

And I pretty much just told you the story of my life, didn’t I?

2. At what point do you think you’ll stop blogging?

I’m not going to lie but I have considered stopping blogging last year when the stress of University and personal life collided with my blogging life. But, to be honest, I can’t live without my blog and even if I’m too busy with the life outside the blogsphere, I always end up going back to my blog and find my refuge here no matter what.

And I also learnt that people will understand if you don’t post for a while. Life gets in the way of everyone but my followers/readers/friends have always been there for me when I returned so I owe then that.

3. What is the best thing about blogging?

Meeting fellow bookworms, new authors, new books, sharing experiences, fangirling with everyone, winning giveaways (come one, we all love when that happens, right?)… All the positive things that accompany books and stuff 😉

4. What is the worst thing? What do you do to make it okay?

Blogging-slump (does that word even exists? If not, did I just create a new term?!). When you seem like you can’t write a post, or even have the patience to sit in front of the laptop and publish a post. I have quite a few moments like those and I hate them. And when that happens, I normally take a deep breath, go drink a coffee or take a shower, read a few chapters from a book, check out other blogs and try again. Normally works for me.

When a review I wrote gets haters – let’s be honest, as reviewers, we have those reviews people don’t agree with, right? And when they begin to disrespect your opinion and shamming it, don’t you feel miserable in both angry and sad ways? What do I do to make it feel better? I don’t engage on confrontation (though sometimes I really have the urge to) and move on.

When a request I made gets rejected. Seriously, sometimes you get so excited about a book and when the publisher rejects your request (whether you’ve requested it via NetGalley/Edelweiss or to the publisher), you feel like your insides are being burned (wow… that was perhaps a little bit too over-dramatic). What I do to make it okay? I don’t give up and try again with different books 😉

Writing negative reviews. I hate those moments sometimes… we all have that, right?

5. How long does it take you to create/find pictures to use?

It actually depends. When I know exactly which pic/gif I want to use, it normally takes around, let’s say 5 minutes to find it and post it. But when I’m in doubt, I spend a good hour searching for possible pictures/gifs to match what I want to share.

6. Who is your book crush?

I refuse to answer this question. Why? Because I honestly can’t choose one. Choosing one would be betraying all the others and I do love my baes!

7. Which author would you like to have on your blog?

All of them… I want to know all their secrets!

Now, let’s be serious. Perhaps J.K. Rowling and Neil Gaiman. These two are bloody geniuses and I do intend on getting inside their brains and find their compartment that makes them so good and then possess it and be the best… did I just say that out loud?

8. What do you wear when you write your blog posts?

Whatever I’m wearing at the time of said moment. Right now I’m wearing jeans, my converses, a sweater and a scarf (it’s rather cold) but once I wrote a full review after taking a shower so I was wearing only my bathrobe. Let’s say that it was a hot day or else I would have freeze to death!

9. How long does it take you to prepare?

Prepare what? A review? It might take a while depending on how I feel about that particular book I’m reviewing. I first write on word (not always) then copy-paste to the blog and since there’s a pretty handy helper here on wordpress (yes, I’m talking about the copying posts you’ve previously posted… I use that all the time!), all I have to do is a few minor changes.

Another sort of post? It all depends on whatever it is I’m planning, my mood (yes, my mood influences a lot of my blogging and I bet some of you can notice it), my laptop (this thing can get so slow it takes me ages to do something I can do in 10 minutes!), the noise around me (yes, it also influences ’cause blogging with someone hammering on the floor above you is horrible!)

10. How do you feel about the book blogger community?

It’s the best community EVER!! I love everyone even though I don’t share that love that much. We are all different and have opposite tastes but our passion for books is what brings us together and we are “All for one and one for all!”

11. In what do you think one should do to get a successful blog?

Having fun in what you’re doing is the best way to make your blog big. But of course that you also need to be yourself and interact with other people. Don’t make blogging an obligation!

And because you should have fun while blogging, here’s Tom Hiddleston dancing… you’re welcome 🙂

Who do I tag?!
I will especially tag Carla and Marina @O Fantástico Blog dos Livros because their blog is still a baby and even though they’re blog is in Portuguese, I’m super excited for them. But I pretty much tag everyone who wishes to do this tag! Just let me know you did it by commenting below and I’ll check out your post 😉

O Fantástico Blog dos Livros

This is a bit of a publicity post so, please, bear with me.

Carla and Marina, two friends of mine, decided to create a brand new book blog.

They had a book blog before but decided to delete it since they had started using it as a mandatory job instead of a hobby. And when something you love becomes something you have to force yourself into, things normally don’t end well.

Their previous blog was called ‘O Livro Que Deu Um Pum’.

However, they now decided to create a brand new one and start afresh, and I couldn’t be more excited and happy for them. They’ll be sharing not only book-related stuff but also movies, music and TV-series.

It’s a Portuguese blog but I couldn’t help but spread the word about it. The name of the blog, translated to English, is ‘The Fantastic Blog of Books’ and it was inspired by the wonderful short-movie called ‘The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore’ (a short I highly recommend every book lover to watch).

So, without further ado, I give you:

Back in the Game!!!

I know I haven’t posted anything for months but it has been terribly complicated. University, niece and life has stolen all my time. But now that I’m on Summer vacations, I will be back with news, reviews, hopefully a giveaway to compensate you all and much more.

As for my story, Deephaven, I also had to put that aside but I am trying to get back to it. My original idea faded away but I’m having others that I might use to continue the story. As soon as I have a new chapter to post, I’ll let you all know.

I’m super excited to be back since I missed posting things on the blog, sharing news and exciting stuff. I admit that I needed time out from the blog and all the work around it. I needed to focus on University and my personal problems in order to be able to be back in time. I guess that if I didn’t do that, I would be deleting the blog in a few weeks. So, I’m glad I’ve decided to put it on a short hiatus.

I’m also quite amaze with how many people keep visiting my blog despite the fact that it has been quite. And I missed every single one of my followers and I have to thank you all for keeping up enduring me. You are the solemn reason, as I always say, that this blog is alive.

A Cup of Coffee and a Book will be coming back as soon as a few modifications have been made to re-transform the blog. Some you can already notice – such as the header, hope you guys like it – and I’m currently creating the button and a few new things.

Some changes will also occur in time and I hope to be able to re-start blogging around next week – weekend tops!

I will admit that since September I haven’t been around the blogosphere and I’ve been missing a lot of things. The hiatus the blog – and myself – had to go under actually helped me deal with a couple of things and I do pray it’ll make my comeback even more exciting.

There’s so much I want to share, to do, to know and keep up with I’m pretty sure it’ll be a tough job. But, I’ll be honest, I miss blogging and reviewing.

So, for now, the blog will be in maintenance therefore, if you click on a link and it doesn’t work, if a picture doesn’t show up or if I happen to re-design everything, don’t worry… THE BLOG IS SLOWLY COMING BACK TO LIFE!!!

New Co-Reviewer!!

Today I am bringing you the wonderful news:

My sweetie friend Carla (ex-O Livro Que Deu Um Pum) is joining A Cup of Coffee and a Book as a co-reviewer.

Me & Carla_2

I met Carla in the University through some colleagues. I admit, and this will sound corny as hell, that she was one of the best people I met at my Uni ❤

I invited Carla to join the blog when she had to drop her previous book blog due to some personal issues. I kept the door opened saying that if she wanted to post anything here, she was welcome to do so. And the other day she asked me if the offer was still standing… of course it was dah!!

So lets all give the warmest of welcome to Carla!

PS: she’s obsessed with minions 😉

I’M BACK!!!!

Hello everyone *waves hand*

I’m back from my six days holidays. Actually, I came back Wednesday but I’ve been extremely lazy when it comes to update my blog. I know, I know… I went on holidays to relax and ease my mind and then I come back and decide to indulge myself in laziness! Shame on me!!!

My holidays were simple: I went to the beach, managed to get burnt on my first day, didn’t read AT ALL (due to a small reading slump), didn’t bought any book (tight budget), bought a bookmark and got a wonderful surprise when I got home.

Yap, those were my holidays.

There’s not much to tell about them really… I went with two friends of mine and had a blast! Since I got burnt on my first beach day, I decided to spend the rest of my beach-days in the shade. Didn’t read because I had a minor reading slump! Thanks the heavens it’s over!!

I bought a bookmark in Algarve and three new ones here in Lisbon. They are about the typical Portuguese azulejos and they are simply stunning!!! Look at them:

Oh, the first one was sent to me by Ash Krafton!! Still… NEW BOOKMARKS!!!

When I was on my way to Algarve, my mum sent me a text-message with the news that my Wolf’s Bane copy had arrived. What I wasn’t expecting was Ash Krafton wrote me:

It just made me extremely happy, proud, flatter and honoured! I guess every single book blogger who gets a special dedication knows what I felt.

Thank you so much Ash for the amazing surprise ❤

Now, I have another news! This one was a surprise from my dad… he gave me his old smartphone – it’s not as good as a brand new one but still – which means I now have an Instagram account!

So, if you guys want to follow me there you can do so by clicking on the icon 😉 Looking forward to follow you as well.

I will also be part of Iron Pendulum by Megan Curd Blog Tour! If you don’t remember, I was part of Steel Lily blog tour last year – it was my first stop EVER – so I’m really excited to be part of this Tour 🙂

Other small news – and still not confirmed – is that my sweetie Carla might be part of the blog! I’m still waiting for some details but she might be a reviewers here on the blog which means… PARTY ALL NIGHT LONG!!

I was going to be part of Emily’s Dusting off the Shelves Read-a-Thon but with the holidays I couldn’t really participate. It’s a shame ’cause I was really looking forward to it 😦

Anyway! These are all the news I have for now! I will be posting my Wrap-Up of all the books I’ve read last month, my Readers Choice and all the reviews I still haven’s posted (or written :S) during this weekend. Keep a weather eye out for those 😀

Thank you for your extreme patience… I owe you all a lot and you know that 😉

Changing Theme!!

Hello everyone 🙂

I just wanted to let you know that I’m currently planning on changing my blog’s theme. I’m slightly tired of this one and I’ve been playing around with WordPress’s themes and I think I might have found a brand new one for the blog…

So, I want to apologise in advance if the whole place is upside-down! I’ll try to get everything looking pristine (hehe) ASAP 😛

Happy 2nd Blogoversary

It’s A Cup of Coffee and a Book 2nd Blogoversary!!

Who would have thought this blog would reach this far? 2 years might sound like a small number but to me is something beyond imagining.

2013 was an amazing year when it comes to book blogging: Inês began writing reviews for the blog, I began Blog Touring, I was contacted by some authors for review their work or post a promo, my BookTube channel reached 100 subscribers, etc… but all of this wouldn’t be possible without the amazing support I had during all this time.

My followers/readers, authors, friend bloggers, friends and family have been the most inspiring of inspirations I could ask for. And even when I wasn’t able to post things here, they kept supporting me by simply being there and commenting and sharing their passion for books with me.

This sounds so lame but it’s the ultimate truth and I think every single book blogger out there feels the same: nothing would matter if we didn’t had you all sharing this with us.

So, this post is simply a Happy Blogoversary to A Cup of Coffee and a Book and to thank all the wonderful people who kept this blog running – you all know who you are!

Here, have Matt Smith as a THANK YOU token (hehe xD)

PS: A giveaway will be up on the blog right after this post in celebration of its 2nd Blogoversary. Keep an eye out for that 😉

Christmas Goodies

Ho Ho Ho…Happy Christmas everyone!!!

How was your Christmas everyone?! I hope you guys have received some amazing presents under the tree and have eaten a lot of chocolate and pantries 😀

My Christmas was slightly different from other years. First, my niece was born on December 20th which pretty much messed up with our schedule. Second, my mum and I decided not to make out tree this year due to the fact that we spent the week before Christmas visiting and helping my sister on the Hospital before the baby was born… we barely had time for ourselves.

Therefore our Christmas was, let’s say, cancelled. On December 24th my sister and niece came home from the Hospital so you can imagine how our mood was on that day… sleepy!!

And on Christmas Day I’ve decided to procrastinate and spent the entire day watching movies: Edward Scissorhands and The Lord of the Rings (only got as far as The Two Towers but, oh boy, didn’t I missed the movies!)

However, I got some goodies on Christmas Eve that I was so not expecting and those small things made this Christmas worth it despite all.

So, let’s check out the two (yah, I only got two presents this year… but I also got some money though) presents I got:

My sister/twin/niece got me this figurine on a fair. I absolutely LOVE IT!!! It has everything to do with the blog and it’s from now on, the blog mascot (need to find a name for the figurine though… I give names to everything!!!!).

And my best-friend/partner-in-crime Inês got me (and I still cannot believe this) the entire HP saga in English, something I’ve been DYING to get ever since I started reading HP. The books are used, they don’t match and I couldn’t care less about those details…. those are all HP books in freaking English.

I surely don’t deserve her as a friend ’cause I didn’t gave her anything this year and I feel terrible about that.

I might use some of the money I got to get myself some books, some clothes, well, pretty much the things we buy with Christmas money. And if I happen to buy books, I’ll let you know by creating a special Showcase Sunday dedicated to Christmas presents I bought myself 😉

Liebster Award (#3)

I’ve been nominated for another Liebster Award once again… and I’ve been so lazy that I completely forgot to thank those who nominated me and to do my share of the award.

So, here’s to whom I have to thank for the award:

The Liesbter Award is a nice way to choose some of our favourite blogs and place them in the spotlight. The person who nominated will give you ten questions to answer and then you choose ten blogs you want to nominate and ten questions for them to answer back.

So, I’ll start with The Duck and the Owl‘s questions since they nominated me first:

| 1. If you could date any fictional character, who would it be?

Oh, that’s an easy one: Tobias Eaton from Divergent by Veronica Roth. Four is simply one of my favourite male characters and I simply love him! He’s the best 🙂

| 2. What is your favorite word?

Difficult one… *wrack’s brain* Perhaps “dreams”!

| 3. What is the last thing you texted?

I texted a colleague of mine asking her to let me know if the scans are good *blushes*

| 4. What song just “gets you” right now?

“Paradise (What About Us?)” by Within Temptation and Tarja Turunen. I’ve been waiting for this collaboration for years and I cannot explain my feelings about it… it’s quite deep 😉

| 5. What did you have for breakfast?

Bread with nutella hehe xD

| 6. If you were deserted on a itty bitty island and could only take three books with you, what would they be?

I would never choose three books! I would glue all my books together and take them all with me.

| 7. List three things that you like about yourself.

My eyes, my ability to dream and my smile 🙂

| 8. What Hogwarts house would you be in?

Gryffindor… at least I am on Pottermore 😀 (quite the shock and surprise)

| 9. What shows do you constantly watch reruns of?

Doctor Who!!!!

| 10. Of course we must ask, what animal is your spirit animal?

I have no idea… maybe an Owl or an Dragon.

And now, Joana‘s questions:

| 1. What are you currently reading?

I’m reading Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen for University (and personal pleasure). I had previous started the book but never finished it… I’m enjoying it very much though I keep remembering the movie :S

| 2. Do you have any weird bookish habits?

Smelling books! I simply LOVE the smell of books 😛

| 3. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, which one would it be?

Perhaps Heart’s Blood by Juliet Marillier 🙂

| 4. Which is your favourite secondary character?

Roar from Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi. Who doesn’t love him?! 😉

| 5. What is your main blogging goal at the moment?

Post all my Blog Tour Stops… I’m quite nervous about them and I don’t know why :S

| 6. Do you prefer series or stand-alones?

I’m a series person though I admit there are some nice stand-alones. I simply cannot say goodbye to some characters, I need them in more than one book.

| 7. What made you decide to create a blog?

I was already posting things about books on my personal blog but I wanted to expand it, to be able to talk about books and only books without loosing followers. I guess I decided to create it on a whim and didn’t really thought about it… I regret nothing!!!

| 8. If you could meet any author, who would you choose?

J.K. Rowling!
I’ve already met my favourite author and I loved every single second of that day. But I need to see J.K. Rowling for real and tell her face to face how much she means to me… guess I’m not the only one 😀

| 9. What has been your happiest moment as a blogger?

The moment authors began asking me to read and review their work. That was something mind blowing, having someone trusting me with their work and trusting my judgement 😀

| 10. What made you want to start a blog?

The want to share my experience with other people and simply be able to “scream” at the world: “YOU HAVE TO READ THIS!!!”. LOL xD

And now, Kayla‘s questions:

| 1. How did you come up with your blog name?

It was really hard! I couldn’t find a name that would “be me”, if you what I mean. I wanted something that people could relate not only to me but them as well. And one day I was drinking coffee and reading a book on my favourite coffee-shop and it simply popped into my brain…

| 2. Who are your top three book boyfriends?

  1. Red from Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier;
  2. Four from Divergent by Veronica Rossi;
  3. Perry Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi.

| 3. Do you have a favorite book quote?

“We learn from failure, not from success!” Dracula, Bram Stoker.

| 4. Have you any bookish pet peeves?

No, I’m not going to say love triangles ’cause I quite like them (don’t shoot me… please!).
I think I kind of hate the “Mean Girls” type of characters in books. I just want to slap them badly and sometimes they make the reading hard.

| 5. If you could be a character from any book, travel to any world, who would you be? Where would you go? And (again from any book) who would you bring with you?

Oh God!! What kind of question is this?!?! I surely cannot answer this… there are so many characters I would love to be, travel to so many worlds and so many people from books I wanted to bring with me… this is evil!!!!

Sorry, I cannot answer 😦

| 6. Is there a book that you tell people you’ve read but honestly have not?

I normally tell people that I’ve read other books by Dickens apart from A Christmas Carol *blushes*

| 7. If you could trade places with any famous person for one day, who would it be?

Or J.K. Rowling or Veronica Roth! I seriously want to have their brain!!

| 8. If you could change one event in the history of fiction, what would it be?

I would probably change absolutely nothing! I mean, why would I change it? I believe everything happens for a reason so I couldn’t pick up an event and simply modify it.

Plus, I’m a Doctor Who fan and I believe that the history of fiction is a fixed point in time and cannot be change or re-written 😀

| 9. Which fictional character do you relate to?

I relate myself with several character because of one or two traits. I’m slightly clumsy like Bella Swan from Twilight, I suffered from bullying like Sonea from the Magician’s Guild, people normally don’t take me serious like Luna Lovegood from HP, I could spend the entire day here mentioning small things I can relate myself with some characters 😛

| 10. Name five books you’d recommend to turn one into a book- lover.

Okay, let’s see:

  1. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowlings;
  2. Sevenwaters by Juliet Marillier;
  3. Angels & Demons by Dan Brown;
  4. Stardust by Neil Gaiman;
  5. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

So, there you go!! I’m so sorry once again for taking SO LONG doing this 😀

I’m not choosing anyone for this Liebster; if you want to do it you can and say I tagged you. And you can also choose the questions you want to answer from the above.

Yes, I’m being lazy!

I thank Sarah, Kaitlyn, Joana and Kayla once again for the nomination 😀

You guys rock!

25th Birthday Celebration Giveaway (CLOSE)

It’s my birthday month…

… which means…

You guys have noticed I have a thing for crazy happy dances, right?!
And for Doctor Who, right?!

Sweet Jesus I’m turning 25 this year :O

Getting old… getting really old…

I’ve decided to do a giveaway in celebration of that pathetic number! I mean, I’m a quarter of a century old! That has got to be something big and important, right?!

So, let’s check out what I have up on my sleeve for my dear followers who have endured me for these last (almost) two years and who have grown up (or not ;-)) with me.

There will be ONE WINNER only and he/she can choose between:

And why I am giving you the chance to pre-order a copy of These Broken Stars?

Well, if you have seen this post, you’ll know that I absolutely and truly and deeply loved the book and it’s – so far – my favourite book of 2013.

My review will be up on the blog around November and the book will be released on December 10th this year.
NOTE: On The Book Depository the book will be released on January 24th, 2014 so this will be the edition I’ll be pre-ordering if you choose this option.

And since I want my followers to go through the same amazing and breathtaking experience as I went while reading it, I’m allowing myself to pre-order it for you if you happen to choose it.

I, on the other hand, will be waiting for the paperback edition so consider yourselves very lucky and important to me 😀

But, there are a couple of things you need to know before entering the giveaway.

The first is: the rules you have to follow:
– You must be a follower of A Cup of Coffee and Book (by e-mail, Bloglovin’ or Networked Blog – you choose);
– You must be older than 18 years to participate or have your parents permission to give me your address;
– The Book Depository must ship to your country (click here to check if your country is available) otherwise I won’t be able to send you the prize;
DO NOT CHEAT. I will verify each and all entries to be certain you didn’t pickup entries randomly;
– I reserve the right to disqualify a winner since I’ll be paying the book(S) myself;
– I won’t be held responsible for any damages or losses in the post;
– I will e-mail the winner when the giveaway is over and they will have 72 hours to reply to claim the prize or else I’ll draw a new winner;
– The giveaway will end on October 26th 2013, at 23:59 GMT (London/Lisbon time).

Sorry the amount of rules but these are precautions a blogger needs to have when holding a giveaway. I hope you guys understand 😉

Now the other thing is about the Rafflectopter form. WordPress doesn’t accept the Rafflecopter forms to show up on the post so you won’t see it below as it’s normal. And for that I’m truly sorry but I really do love to work with Rafflecopter and there’s nothing I can do about it.

However, you can click on the link bellow on bold and try your luck! It’ll lead you directly to the giveaway form.

Thank you all for everything you’ve done and good luck everyone 🙂

A to Z Bookish Survey

AZ Survey

This survey is from The Perpetual Page Turner.

I’ve seen this survey on every blog I follow (or almost) and I feel like an outsider for not doing it 😦 This seemed like a fun thing to do so I decided to do it and share it with you guys.

Author you’ve read the most books from:

Juliet Marillier, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Dan Brown and J.K. Rowling (of course). I think I’ve read more than three books from these authors.

Best Sequel Ever:

I hate these questions!!! I have no idea… for me every sequel is amazing because it exists. But if I truly have to choose one… Okay, forget it. I can’t answer this one :S

Currently Reading:

I’m currently reading two books, one in Portuguese (lent by my aunt) and one in English for a Blog Tour.

The Portuguese one is I Am Legend by Richard Matheson and so far it has been an enjoyable reading though different from the movie.

The English one is Night of the Purple Moon by Scott Cramer, the first book of The Toucan Trilogy. So far I have way too many questions but, then again, I’m only in the beginning so I believe some questions will be answered 🙂

Drink of Choice while Reading:

Water, coffee and chocolate milk (cold or hot… it depends on the weather).

E-Reader of Physical Book?

I love my Bobby Socks but I LOVE a physical book even more. I can have thousands of ebooks on my Kobo but it feels like I don’t really own them. Whilst with a physical one, it feels real to the touch, it feels mine, mine own… if you know what I mean?

Fiction Character You Probably Would Have Actually Dated in High School:

Ethan from The Caster Chronicles probably… or maybe Cal from Hex Hall 😉

Glad You Gave This Book A Chance:

The Mad Scientists’ Daughter by Cassandra Rose Clarke. Though I had a feeling I was going to enjoy it, I never thought this book would have such a deep meaning to me. I still need to buy it on Paperback though :/

Hidden Gem Book:

The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff… I know this author and this book are a bit famous around the YA community but I still think this book should have more readers.

Important Moment in Your Reading Life:

Creating my Goodreads account and my book blog. It introduced me to so many books, authors, I’ve met so many people and blogs… It was the best thing I ever did in my life.

Just Finished:

My Sister’s Reaper by Dorothy Dreyer. I really enjoyed it and I hope there’ll be more. My review will be up on October 11th for a Blog Tour eheh xD

Kinds of Books You Won’t Read:

Erotic (even though I’ve read Fifty Shades); Biographies (have to read some for University and I don’t particularly like it); self-help books… you can get the picture.

Longest Book You’ve Read:

Brisingr (Inheritance Cycle #3) by Christopher Paolini and only because I couldn’t finish Inheritance. The Portuguese edition of the book has around 813 pages so… yeah!

Major Book Hangover Because of:

I normally have a lot of hangovers when I finish a book. I had one with Harry Potter, I always have one when I finish a book my Juliet Marillier; had one with Delirium by Lauren Oliver, Insurgent by Veronica Roth, Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi, The Mad Scientist’s Daughter by Cassandra Rose Clarke… and so on…

Number of Bookcases You Own:

I have one bookcase with three and half shelves (and a half because the last one has a few books only) and three more shelves on the wall.

One Book You Have Read Multiple of Times:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling 😉

Preferred Place to Read:

Bed! I like to feel comfortable when I read 😀

Quote that Inspires You/Gives You All The Feels From A Book You’ve Read:

“Listen to them, the children of the night. What music they make!”Dracula, Bram Stoker and don’t ask me why. I always get goose-bumps when I read this.

Reading Regrets:

Only finding my passion for books when I was 14 years-old. I wish I could have memories of favourite books when I was a child but unfortunately I don’t have that many apart from a few and those are mostly my sister’s influence.

Series You Started And Need To Finish (All Books Are Out In Series):

Delirium by Lauren Oliver; Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead; The Caster Chronicles by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl; Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick; Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins… and the worst of all, Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini…. I’m pathetic!!!

Three Of Your All-Time Favourite Books:

Tricky one!!! I have a LOT of books that are my favourites… Heart’s Blood by Juliet Marillier; The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowing.

Unapologetic Fangirl Of:

Juliet Marillier; Harry Potter (and consequently J.K. Rowling) and Divergent 🙂

Oh, and even though it’s not a book, it has some books… Doctor Who!!!

Very Excited For This Release More Than All Others:

Allegiant (Divergent #3) by Veronica Roth…. I swear to you that I’m freaking out without this book!!!!

Worst Bookish Habit:

Book shopping (it’s bad and good…)!!! Smelling books! You pick 😛

X Marks The Spot: Start At The Top Left of Your Shelf And Pick the 27th Book:

The Iron Daughter (The Iron Fey Series #2) by Julie Kagawa.

Your Latest Book Purchase:

I’m so poor and broke that my last purchase was The Flame of Sevenwaters by Juliet Marillier back in July 😦

Zzz-snatcher Book (Last Book That Kept You Up WAY Late):

These Broken Starts (Starbound #1) by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner… it was 6 am when I finished it and I could barely sleep afterwards. But it was SO WORTH IT!!!

Yay! This was so cool to do… if you haven’t done it yet, go ahead and do it. Feel free to leave me a link so I can check out your answers 😉

Hope you guys have enjoyed this ^_^

A Hora Secreta (Midnighters #1) – Scott Westerfield

O Mago (Antigo Egipto #3) – Wilbur Smith

A minha fofinha Carla @O Livro Que Deu Um Pum “taggou-me” (esta palavra existe?) neste Tag e eu agradeço-lhe imenso *virtual hug* eheh xD

???????????????????????????????Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy #1) – Richelle Mead

Este até foi relativamente fácil porque assim que olhei para a estante, ele sobressaiu-se.

DSC00978The Perks of Being a Wallflower – Stephen Chbosky

Tinha outro livro começado com P (que podem ver na foto lá ao fundo) mas preferi mostrar este porque este livro é um espectáculo. Mais, ainda não li o outro logo, achei que era justo mostrar o Perks :S

DSC00979Geist (Book of the Order #1) – Philippa Ballantine

DSC00980Living Dead in Dallas (Sookie Stackhouse #2) – Charlaine Harris

*I regret nothing*

As vossas letras serão… *drum roll*… H S B F M!!!

Liebster Award (#2)

Lovely Kayla @The Thousand Lives nominated me for a Liebster Award.

The Liebster Award is a way to help blogs you like with less than 200 followers. It’s a nice way to give them some deserved attention and to make our followers discover them as well. I’ve found some pretty good blogs thanks to this kind of thing 😉

This is the second time I’m nominated but the first one here on WordPress. When I moved from Blogger to WP, I lost all my previous followers but, somehow (and I have no idea why you people click on “following”), I’ve managed to get back on track and have at least 200 followers.

You guys are absolutely amazing and I owe you all ^_^ Especially Kayla for remembering me and for nominating me. It means a lot to me as a bookblogger 😀

However, there are some rules to follow though:

  • Link back the blogger that tagged you;
  • Nominate 10 others and answer the questions of the one who tagged you;
  • Ask 10 questions for the bloggers you nominate;
  • Let your nominees know of their award;

And now, let’s answer Kayla’s questions:

1. How long did it take you to settle in to your blog (how you wanted to write, how you wanted to lay out your posts, what sort of graphics you wanted to use, what theme to use, etc.)?

Not much to be honest. I had settled the writing style before creating my book blog. I used to write stuff about books on my personal blog and I really didn’t wanted to change my writing style though I admit I tried being more formal and professional.

As for the graphics, theme and others, that took some days to settle. But when I found the “perfect” theme, the one I liked the most, and understood the whole HTML and others, it was pretty quick.

2. How long have you been blogging, and what made you start blogging?

I’ve been blogging for a few years now but book blogging around one year and a half. My blog will be two years old on January 🙂

I’ve started blogging (no books yet) because I wanted to share my things with other people. It was a nice way to open up about things without fear of being judged by those who know me personally.

As for book blogging, I wanted to share with people the experience I had while reading books, to recommend books, to fangirl about the it, the male characters and upcoming movie-adaptations, to promote an author… I just wanted to share everything book-related with others 😛

3. Give me a profile of yourself (age, location, job, school, some favorites, etc)?

Okay, I suck at this and I might end up writing the story of my life. Here we go:

I’m Ner and I’m 24 going on 25. I was born, raised and live in Lisbon, Portugal and I’m an University student.

My favourite book is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë though HP and all books by Juliet Marillier are also precious to me. My favourite movie is The Lord of the Rings and Beauty and Beast. Favourite band is Within Temptation and I love Bryan Adams. I’m a Whovian which means my favourite TV-series is, none other than, Doctor Who.

I love everything an ordinary girl like me likes: books, coffee, movies, TV-series, music, clothes, make-up, boys, Internet, family, friends and so on.

That’s it… if I continue, I’ll be definitely writing my whole life.

4. What was your best memory in high school?

I didn’t had a normal high school. Here in Portugal you can take a superior/professional degree that will be the equivalence of high school. And those were the best three years of my life.

I have tons of great memories from that period and it’s hard to pick up one. Every moment was special. But I have to say that meeting my friends was, perhaps, the best thing ever.

5. Who inspires you, and why?

Oh boy… I have some people who inspire me. I think my mum, my grandfather and sister are my biggest inspiration.

My mum and sister inspire me but not as idols, if you know what I mean. I’m inspired in being someone better because of them, I want to make them proud of me and happy around me.

As for my grandfather; he passed away seven years ago but somehow he makes me inspired by his gentleness and tenderness as a granddaddy. It might not make sense to anyone else but for me he’s like a muse 🙂

6. What are your three favorite books?

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë; Heart’s Blood by Juliet Marillier and The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern -> this being a tiny small list of favourites.

7, What book has influenced you the most in your life?

Any book from Juliet Marillier and Harry Potter. Each and every single one of them was there the right time, the right moment and helped me do the right thing 😉

8. Which character would be your best friend, if they were in the flesh?

Luna Lovegood. Don’t ask me why but I think she’d be a hell of a friend, the best perhaps 😀

9. What is your favorite book to movie adaptation?

Pride & Prejudice by Joe Wright. I know the movie is slightly different from the book but I absolutely love it. Both, I love them both 🙂

10. If you could say one thing to your favorite author, what would it be and who would it be to?

I’ve already said to Juliet Marillier how much her work inspires me and how much it makes me hope.

But if I happen to meet J.K. Rowling, I would simply say “Thank you for my life.”

And now, my questions (they might be the same as my previous Liebster):
  1. Why did you created your blog?
  2. Does the name of your blog has a deeper meaning?
  3. If you could re-name your blog, would you do it? If so, which name and why?
  4. Does your family and friends know about your blog?
  5. If you could live anywhere else in the world, where would it be?
  6. If you could meet anyone famous (alive or dead), who would it be?
  7. Any culture out there you’d like to know better?
  8. Do you speak another language? If so, which? If not, which language would you like to learn?
  9. First book you remember reading?
  10. First movie you saw on the cinema?

And now, the hardest part – Blogs. I’m pretty sure everyone I follow has more than 200 followers but I’ll give it a try:

  1. Vicky – Vicky Thinks (Eng);
  2. Meredith – Pandora’s Box (Eng);
  3. Chiara – Books for a Delicate Eternity (Eng);
  4. Francine – The Bookworm in Boots (Eng – not sure how many followers she has but still… check out her blog :D);
  5. Katja – YA’s the Word by Katja (Eng);
  6. Mini – The Skeptical Reader (Eng – okay, she has more than 200 followers but I recommend you to check out her blog);
  7. Natalie – Book Lover’s Life (Eng – a new blog I came across and became a fan :D);
  8. Jessica – Read My Breath Away (Eng – 200 followers but she deserves more :P)
  9. Lanaia – The Temporary Escape (Eng – a new blog as well :P);
  10. Carla, Marina & Patricia – O Livro Que Deu Um Pum (PT – of course I had to nominate you girls!! You deserve it :D);

Yay, I’ve managed to have 10 blogs for this Liebster Award *happy dance*. Hope you guys enjoy this as much as I did and rock on 😛
