When/ Death Date
Victoria Laurie
Release Date: January 13th, 2015
Publisher: Disney-Hyperion

Synopsis:
Maddie Fynn is a shy high school junior, cursed with an eerie intuitive ability: she sees a series of unique digits hovering above the foreheads of each person she encounters. Her earliest memories are marked by these numbers, but it takes her father’s premature death for Maddie and her family to realize that these mysterious digits are actually death dates, and just like birthdays, everyone has one.

Forced by her alcoholic mother to use her ability to make extra money, Maddie identifies the quickly approaching death date of one client’s young son, but because her ability only allows her to see the when and not the how, she’s unable to offer any more insight. When the boy goes missing on that exact date, law enforcement turns to Maddie.

Soon, Maddie is entangled in a homicide investigation, and more young people disappear and are later found murdered. A suspect for the investigation, a target for the murderer, and attracting the attentions of a mysterious young admirer who may be connected to it all, Maddie’s whole existence is about to be turned upside down. Can she right things before it’s too late?

The Lost Locket of Lahari Anthology
Erica Crouch | Terra Harmony | Janna Jennings | Ruth Silver | Kellie Sheridan
Release Date: September 9th, 2014
Publisher: Patchwork Press

Synopsis:
In a dusty, dilapidated stall tucked away in an alcove of a bustling Bazaar in India, a man with a rickety spine and a spindly beard bends over his work bench, forging a locket with accidental magic. There’s power in a wish, and there’s nothing he wants more than for his children to return home. The locket was intricately crafted, adorned with one dragonfly for each of his children—and the power to find them.

With the guidance of fate, the locket skips through time and journeys across oceans, traveling from person to person in a constant search for the souls whispered into its vessel. Centuries after the magical old man in the Bazaar became near-forgotten myth and whispered legend, the locket has fallen into the hands of those with echoes of the six dragonflies: the seeker, the empath, the dreamer, the confidant, the adventurer, and the dancer.

In the hands of its new owners, the power of the locket adapts, bending and remaking itself to answer need. While the locket never found the children of Lahari, it found the next best thing… Their spirits.

The six novellas of the Lost Locket of Lahari anthology pause a moment in time when the locket finds the ripples of its ancestry. From the Victorian-era to the Roaring Twenties, the 1940s, the modern day and beyond, this anthology is a collection of stories as dynamic as the authors themselves.

This book doesn’t come as a surprise since I already mentioned it on my I’m Back post yesterday!

As a fan of this author, I am pleased to say that I’m extremely happy to have been part of the Demimonde series from the beginning to the very end. I will miss this series and these characters – I still want more Rodrian *wink wink* – but I can always go back and pick up the books. I was lucky and honoured enough to have Ash Krafton herself sending me copies of her books with amazing dedications written especially for me. I will continue following Ash’s work and I wish her all the best of lucks in the world because she surely deserves it 😉

Hello everyone *waves hand*

So, these last two days have been sort of a roller-coaster since I barely set foot home. On Friday I went to have lunch with my dad and then it was spending the afternoon and night with some friends.

Yesterday was my sister’s birthday so I spent the whole day and night out with her and the rest of my family.

And finally, today, I have time to sit down and plan a lot of things for the blog ’cause next Friday I’ll be heading to Algarve for six days with two friends of mine…. mini-vacations!!!

Anyway, this is a small update just to let you know that I didn’t forgot you or have been ignoring you in case you’ve been wondering where I was. I’m sorry if I didn’t replied to any comment, tweet, or anything you’ve posted… I simply didn’t had time to come to the Internet 😛

Still, check out which digital books I’ve got this week 😉

A Última Cartada (PT Edition)
Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six M.I.T Students Who Took Vegas for Millions (English Edition)
Ben Mezrich
Release Date: 2008 (PT) | September 17th, 2002
Publisher: Editiorial Presença (PT) | Free Press

Synopsis:
It’s Friday night and you’re on a red-eye to the city of sin. Strapped to your chest is half a million dollars; in your overnight bag is another twenty-five thousand in blackjack chips; and your wallet holds ten fake IDs. As soon as you land in Las Vegas, you are positive you are being investigated and followed. To top it all off, the IRS is auditing you, someone has been going through your mail — and you have a multivariable calculus exam on Monday morning. Welcome to the world of an exclusive group of audacious MIT math geniuses who legally took the casinos for over three million dollars — while still finding time for college keg parties, football games, and final exams. In the midst of the go-go eighties and nineties, a group of overachieving, anarchistic MIT students joined a decades-old underground blackjack club dedicated to counting cards and beating the system at major casinos around the world. While their classmates were working long hours in labs and libraries, the blackjack team traveled weekly to Las Vegas and other glamorous gambling locales, with hundreds of thousands of dollars duct-taped to their bodies. Underwritten by shady investors they would never meet, these kids bet fifty thousand dollars a hand, enjoyed VIP suites and other upscale treats, and partied with showgirls and celebrities.

Handpicked by an eccentric mastermind — a former MIT professor and an obsessive player who had developed a unique system of verbal cues, body signals, and role-playing — this one ring of card savants earned more than three million dollars from corporate Vegas, making them the object of the casinos’ wrath and eventually targets of revenge. Here is their inside story, revealing their secrets for the first time.

Master storyteller Ben Mezrich takes you from the ivory towers of academia to the Technicolor world of Las Vegas, where anything can happen — and often does. “Bringing Down the House” launches you into the seedy underworld of corporate Vegas — deep into the realm of back rooms, ever-present video cameras, private investigators, and the threats and tactics of pit bosses and violent heavies. Equipped with twenty different aliases and disguises, the group of young card counters struggles around these roadblocks to live the high life — until one fateful day when Vegas violently follows them home to Boston. Suddenly, there can be no more hiding behind false identities; the high life folds like a bad hand of cards.

Filled with tense action and incredibly close calls, “Bringing Down the House” is a real-life mix of “Liar’s Poker” and “Ocean’s Eleven “– and it’s a story Vegas doesn’t want you to read.
