Monthly Wrap-Up | September

Wrap-Up

Hello earthlings, how are my favourite people in the world?

Yes, I am trying to apologise with cotton-candy words for your guys to forgive me for my total lack of news! I started classes, I’ve been working on my “novel” and I’ve also been super lazy/tired. Not that much of an excuse but you guys know that I always come back, right?

So, September was the worst month for me! I only read two books, started the third one (which I’ll try to finish this weekend!) and I have no idea what to read in October!

Anyway… check out them out:

Wrap-Up | September

  • Re-Read: Throne of Glass [Throne of Glass #1] – Sarah J. Maas (5/5 cups – old reviewGR | TBD | Amazon
    • I’ve been planning to re-read Throne of Glass for months now and it finally happened in September due to the release of Empire of Storms. I was actually going to dedicate myself to the three books I own of the series but unfortunately I haven’t been able to! But I will be definitely be re-reading Crown of Midnight in October – hoping to but Queen of Shadows and Empire of Storms for my bday 😀 – Also, second time reading this book was way better than the first so I bumped it up that half-star I had previously not given to it… it’s definitely a 5 cups/stars book!!;
  • Summerlong – Peter S. Beagle (3/5 cups – review to come) GR | TBD | Amazon
    • This was a peculiar read. Overall I enjoyed it but I guess I was expecting something else and I was slightly disappointed with it. It’s one of those books I have quite of mixed feelings and can’t really know for sure how to put in words my thoughts about it. I’ll try to write my review for it but I won’t promise to be quite coherent about it;

And that’s a wrap!!!

Monthly Wrap-Up | August

Wrap-Up

Well, we must say goodbye to August and say hello to September!! I just hope autumn comes fast because I can’t stand this heart any longer! I miss the chilly weather and wearing a coat over my tops!! Yep, you can definitely tell I am an autumn person!

If you have been following my reading progresses then you have noticed that August was an okay month! I didn’t read everything I wanted but I read a few good books! So, I’m happy with the progress of this last month though I wish I have read more than only thee books but it’s better than none, right? Still, July was the best month so far for me!

Wrap-Up | August

  • Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet – Charlie N. Holmberg (3/5 cups) GR | TBD | Amazon
    • This was a strange book at first! I was expecting something a little bit different from the synopsis but it was still an enjoyable reading;
  • City of Fallen Angels [The Mortal Instruments #4] – Cassandra Clare (3/5 cups – review to come) GR | TBD | Amazon
    • I was a little bit scared in going into this book because everyone told me it was horrible. But, you know what? It wasn’t that bad. It wasn’t the best in the saga but it wasn’t that bad! I liked the fact it was more centred on Simon and Alec and Isabelle had more action scenes, but overall it was only an okay book in the saga. Still, I enjoyed it despite what pretty much everyone said about it! Bring me more!;
  • Labyrinth Lost [Brooklyn Brujas #1] – Zoraida Córdova (4/5 cups – review to come) GR | TBD | Amazon
    • I really enjoyed this book! First, it was about a kind of witches I’ve never actually read anything before. Second, the romance. Third, I really liked Alex!;

And that’s a wrap!!!

Bout of Books 17 {Wrap-Up = Total Fail}

Bout of Books

Participant 228~ Ner @A Cup of Coffee & a Book

Okay, I should’ve posted this before but, to be fair and honest with you all, I kind of forgot! And, as you can definitely see from my updates and progress, this Bout of Books was a total fail for me! Why? Well, because I spent two days running errands and then I was lazy because I was so tired – and also had a few University stuff to gather before unrolling! Not to mention that I lost all my progress because I decided to reset my phone – I had all my reading progress on my memos – and it kind of unmotivated me.

Also, The Bone Witch is such a complex book I need to pay close attention to it in order to fully understand it so, whenever I picked up the book I was so tired I barely managed to read more than 10 pages a day!

So you could say that this is just a small wrap-up to let you know that I’m a failure!

I actually thought this read-a-thon was going to go smooth but it ended up the contrary! Only the first day was an achievement but it all went down-hill from there! Oh well… maybe next time!!

In the meantime, here’s the books I read:

BoutofBooksWrapUpTotalFail

So, I finished Labyrinth Lost which I really liked. Wasn’t expecting it enjoy it as much as I did! And then I started The Bone Witch and even though I’m really enjoying it, it’s a little but more complex than I initially thought. I’m pretty sure I was around 45% done Sunday but since I lost all my progress, I can’t be certain! And I must have read around 300 and something pages total!

Overall, I’m not happy with this Bout of Books since I am the one to blame for my total failure. Hopefully next time it will be better but this one sucked great time for me!

I hope all of you who participated had a blast and read everything (or close to it) you had challenged yourselves to read. Also, don’t reset your phone during a read-a-thon if you’re writing down your progress there – I normally write it down on a separate piece of paper but this time I was stupid to trust my phone alone… never again!

Monthly Wrap-Up | July

Wrap-Up

August is here!! How on freaking hell is it August already? Though I felt that July was the slowest month to pass, I still cannot believe it’s August! And I still need to go to the beach!

And I’m sorry this post is super late. I had a quite busy last week of July and first week of August but now I’m back!!

Anyway, this last month I had a pretty quite interesting month when it comes to books! I’ve read four out of the six books I had planned to read and added a special one in the mix because… well, you’ll see! But I’m quite pleased with how July was a reading month and I have high expectations for August. In the meantime, take a look at the books I read last month:

Wrap-Up | July

  • Zenith [The Androma Saga #1] – Sasha Alsberg & Lindsay Cummings (3,5/5 cups) GR | Amazon
    • I quite enjoyed this one but I thought it was indeed too short! I think that if Sasha and Lindsay had waited a little bit longer and had released this book with a story that had a beginning, middle and end, it would have been amazing. But, still, I quite liked it and will be waiting for more parts to be released;-);
  • Tower of Thorns (A Torre de Espinhos -PT Edition) [Blckthorn and Grimm #1] – Juliet Marillier (4/5 cups – no review) GR | TBD
    • Even though I LOVE Juliet, this isn’t my favourite series of hers. Still, I enjoyed this one much more than the first book and I’ve also realised that I can’t write a proper review for her books. Why? Because my love for Juliet normally blinds me to the negative aspects of her stories – yes, she also has flaws; she’s human – and I always end up writing a review that mainly says ALL the good things about her books. And I think that’s not fair!;
  • And I Darken [The Conquerors Saga #1] – Kiersten White (4/5 cups) GR | TBD
    • I still don’t know what I feel about this book. I really liked it but there is something I can’t put my finger on! I mean, it’s an amazing book but I can’t still give it a proper rating! I’m giving it 3,5 cups but I can’t write my review for now… gonna wait a while before trying to review it!;
  • Harry Potter and the Cursed Child [Harry Potter #8] – J.K. Rowling & Jack Thorne & John Tiffany (4/5 cups – no review) – GR | TBD
    • OMG!! THE FEELS!!!!! I can’t control my emotions guys, you have no idea!! I read this book in one day – ONE WHOLE DAY!!I bought it and then read it in one sitting and that never happened before. And even though the book has its flaws and it was a weird HP reading experience – because it is the script of the play and not a novel – I enjoyed the book and the plot. Many people didn’t like the whole twist and turn and everything but I did. I liked how we managed to not only see our favourite trio as adults but also meet Scorpius and Albus and still be connected to the whole Voldemort plot – though I do admit some things felt slightly far-fetched even for Harry Potter. But, overall, having the opportunity to read this, to have one more story set in the HP universe was so well worth it. Even if it felt like a weird fan-fic, it was worth it and I’m sure as a play, it’ll be amazing!! Now I can only  waiting for a live DVD of the play or a movie because I know I won’t be able to actually see the play!
  • Clockwork Angel [The Infernal Devices #1] – Cassandra Clare (4/5 cups – review to come) – GRTBD
    • Now I get why everyone loves TID! I admit it… it’s prety awesome! I loved meeting all these new characters and being able to connect it back to TMI and I adore Charlotte and Henry!! As for the main trio – I’m super curious about Will’s past because there’s a lot more going on, Jem is super sweet and I love him, and as for Tessa, I was hoping to be blown away by her character but so far she was only okay. I mean, I liked her but I’m hoping for much more from her in the upcoming books. Also, I loved that Magnus appears in this book because I freaking love him (and that bit about his favourite combination being black hair and blue eyes – MALEC ALERT!!! *swoon*);

And that’s a wrap!!!

Monthly Wrap-Up | June

Wrap-Up

Another month gone which means, another Wrap-Up!

I’m quite happy with this month because I managed to read a total of five books. It might not look like it’s a lot but for someone who had a terrible few months, this is progress!

Wrap-Up | June

Imagem1

  • City of Glass [The Mortal Instruments #3] – Cassandra Clare (5/5 cups) GR | TBD
    • This is, so far, my favourite book in The Mortal Instruments series. I loved the action, the characters, pretty much everything! Even though people tell me that the next book is the worse, I’m super pumped to continue with this amazing series.;
  • Re-Read: The Witch Hunter [The Witch Hunter #1] – Virginia Boecker (5/5 cups) GR | TBD
    • This was a re-read because I wanted to start reading the sequel with every single detail fresh in my mind. And if I previously had loved this book, the second time around was way better;
  • The King Slayer [The Witch Hunter #2] – Virginia Boecker (5/5 cups) GR | TBD
    • I cannot believe how good this book was!! One of my favourite series, without a doubt. And I’m so happy I decided to re-read the first book because if I haven’t, I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed this one as much as I because a lot of details from the first book are important in this one!;
  • The Healer [The Witch Hunter #0,5] – Virginia Boecker (5/5 cups – no review) – GR | Amazon (US)
    • This is a novella about John, a main character in The Witch Hunter series and it works as a prequel to the first book. I didn’t count this one as a whole book because this is a novella and it was quite of a short one. And I read it not only because I wanted but also because I wasn’t ready to leave this universe and characters behind. I have a mini-mini-review on Goodreads though if you want to check it out :P;
  • Relentless [The Hero Agenda #2] – Tera Lynn Childs & Tracy Deebs (3,5/5 cups) – GR | TBD
    • I’m not yet sure about the rating. I still need to write the review. But I did enjoyed this one! As a sequel, it was pretty solid;
  • The Faerie Guardian [Creepy Hollow #1] – Rachel Morgan (3,5/5 cups) – GR | TBD
    • This was a surprise. I enjoyed this one far more than what I anticipated! A really entertaining fantasy story :D;

And that’s a wrap!!!

Monthly Wrap-Up | May

Wrap-Up

Hello everyone!! I know I have been MIA but you all knew that I would, right?

Anyway, I am back and today I’m bringing you my May Wrap-Up. I will admit that I cheated with one particular book but I’ll get into it later!

So, here are all the books (3 total… ugh!!) I read during the pathetic month of May (pathetic because of how many books I read! Really.. reading-slumps are stupid af!):

Wrap-Up | May

May Wrap-Up

  • 1984 – George Orwell (4/5 cups – no review!) GR | TBD
    • WOW!! I absolutely loved this book though the end was a bit sad! It was one my mandatory reads for college and I’m so happy I enjoyed it so much. A great dystopia book set in London that will make you think about the world!;
  • Tell the Wind and Fire – Sarah Rees Brennan (1,5/5) GR | TBD
    • I was slightly (okay, a lot!) disappointed with this book. I was expecting to love it but ending up not liking it that much. I will explain on my review coming this next week. A positive thing though: this author has some powerful quotes!;
  • Zaria Fierce and the Dragon Keeper’s Golden Shoes [Zaria Fierce #3] – Keira Gillett (4,5/5 cups) GR
    • This is the book I cheated! I actually finished it on June 2nd but decided to had it to my May wrap-up because of reasons (mainly because I didn’t want only 2 books on my list!). I adored this book and will post my review closer to the publishing date – July 1st!;

And that’s a wrap!!!

Monthly Wrap-Up | October

Wrap-Up

Okay, another month gone and I cannot believe we are so near 2016. I mean, we only have two months left. Hey, time, can you slow down a bit?! Jesus!!

October was one weird month even though I turned 27. Especially these last weeks. I was ill, I had a clogged ear, I had tests and I read only a total of five books. Well, it could have been worst but I think I did pretty well 🙂

Wrap-Up | October

Untitled design

  • Never Never – Brianna R. Shrum (3/5):
    • A decent re-telling of Peter Pan through Hook’s perpective but it lacked something;
  • Re-Read: Twilight [Twilight #1] – Stephanie Meyer (4/5 – no review);
    • I haven’t read this book in a long time and since it was the 10th year anniversary – yes, I know about Life and Death and yes, I want it but my finances are pretty bad right now for me to buy it – I thought it would be a good idea to return to Forks. I still adore this story despite it all;
  • The 5th Wave [The 5th Wave #1] – Rick Yancey (4/5 cups – no review);
    • This was SO GOOD!!! I was not expecting to literally love this book but I did. I still don’t have a review and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to write it down now but you should definitely read this… it’s really good!;
  • Warren the 13th and the All-Seeing Eye – Tania del Rio (4/5 cups);
    • This book was part of my TBR for Halloween and though it’s not that scary or creepy, it had some paranormal elements to it. It was an adorable story and the illustrations – though this was an ARC and some of them towards the end weren’t finished – were beautiful. The illustrations actually remind me of Tim Burton – hence choosing this for Halloween – but the story is so positive and so adventurous I recommend you guys to try it out;
  • Ted Saves he World [Ted Saves the World #1] – Bryan Cohen (3/5 – no review);
    • Another book from my TBR for Halloween and also part of #readwithben read-a-long. I was expecting something totally different but it was a quite decent book. There wasn’t anything too scary for me but it turned out to be a rather fun read for Halloween;

And that’s a wrap!!!

Monthly Wrap-Up | September

Wrap-Up

Wait, what? If August was like lightning, September barely happened. How can it be October, my birthday month, already? Do you realise that I’m getting old and I don’t want to? Time, stop going so fast!

September was a sort-of-less good month. I had a lot of plans for it but, with college and my read-a-thon, things didn’t go that well. But, in comparison with August, it went better than what I expected.

Wrap-Up | September

Wrap-Up

  • How to Train your Dragon [How to Train your Dragon #1] – Cressida Cowell (4/5);
    • I actually listened to the audiobook of this one while colouring! I mean, David Tennant narrating it?! Like, duh!! Of course I would be listening to this! I really liked it and I found it adorable. It’s totally different from the movie but it’s as amazing as the DreamWorks version. I don’t have a review for this one though;
  • Twilight Visitor – Réal Laplaine (3,5/5 cups);
    • I was surprised with this book. It’s not my genre but I really enjoyed it. My review will be up this weekend with a… GIVEAWAY!!!;
  • A Thousand Nights – E.K. Johnston (2,5/5);
    • I still have no idea what to rate this book and how to write the review. I mean, I enjoyed it but at the same time there’s something with this book that wasn’t entirely real… It’s hard to explain!;
  • Vengeance Road – Erin Bowman (4/5 cups);
    • I really enjoyed this one! Wasn’t expecting it and I’m so glad that my first official YA western book was really good!;
  • How To be a Pirate [How to Train your Dragon #2] – Cressida Cowel (4/5);
    • Another audiobook from this series, again narrated by the one and only David Tennant! This was simply adorable (I need another word for this) and it’s just as good as the first one. I love Tennant’s various voices for the various characters! He’s a genius! Anyway, I highly recommend this series in audiobook. It’s easy to listen while you’re doing something like colouring (like I did hehe xD);

And that’s a wrap!!!
